Ethiopian Election 2015: Is Democracy Prosperous or Destitute?

 Ethiopia holds general elections every five years; the most recent one was held on May 24, 2015. The ruling TPLF/EPRDF party, which has been in power for the past twenty-four years, officially announced on this past Monday, June 22, 2015 that the government and its allies ((political organizations created by EPRDF) won a landslide victory in the country’s parliamentary elections. In the announcement, the ruling party proudly declared itself, not just the winner, but that it was also more victorious than ever before by taking all seats in both the federal and regional parliaments with its allies. In the months and weeks leading to the elections, under very restrictive conditions and in some places even where detentions were common, campaigns by the opposition parties were very intense, and the public response in support of the parties was far beyond expectations. Unfortunately, all of that was to no avail. Looking at the end results of the elections, all that could be said is that the huge public rally behind the opposition parties instead alerted the ruling party- it prepared itself and came up with more and newer tactics to rig the elections. Heavily equipped armed forces were deployed in different areas including the surroundings of the capital, Addis Ababa/Finfinne. As has been the case during the previous elections, hundreds of opposition party candidates, and observers were hunted down and detained at different places prior to the polling day under the pretext that they created obstacles to the process of election or were suspected of being members of political organizations labeled terrorist by the EPRDF government, groups such as the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), Ogadenean Nation Liberation Front (ONLF) and Ginbot 7. Thousands of Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) candidates and observers in Oromia Regional State, including Bule Hora (Guji Zone) South Oromia, Makko and Darimu (Illu Abba Bora), Gimbi and Gulisso (Wallagga) West Oromia, Ginir and Goro (Bale), South Oromia were arrested and intimidated by the government security forces. OFC members Mr. Dula Matias and Mr. Zelalem Shuma in Dambi Dola (Wallagga), the Western Oromia Regional State were among those detained. There have been cases of misinforming and misguiding voters, especially regarding voting times and places. Although it was announced ahead of the election day that there were plenty of voting cards,
 Oromo electors in some particular parts of the region were told that there were no voting cards left. In other areas of Oromia it has been confirmed that the voting cards were distributed to the people hours after the election has already started. For example, in the following photo the EPRDF representative on the Toke Kutaye District (Ambo) was distributing voter cards on May 24, 2014. Worst of all was the stealing of the ballot boxes after they were filled with voting cards in order to give all the votes to the candidates of the ruling party, regardless of whom the voter cards belonged to. The above mentioned incidents happened mainly in Eastern and Western Hararge, Dire Dawa, in various parts of central Shawa, in the Oromia Zone of Wallo, particularly at Wallo University, in Illu Abbabor, at Mettu University, in different parts of Wallaga, in Guji and Borana zones of the regional state of Oromia. Accordingly, as proven in the announcement made by the National Election Board, the ruling TPLF/EPRDF Party stole most of the votes and, by so doing, systematically eliminated all opposition parties from the political game, leaving both the regional and federal parliaments without any alternative voices and differing political opinions. It is so worrisome that the country is once again back under a oneparty monopoly of everything – political, economic, and social. All the rhetoric during the past two decades regarding the flourishing of democracy in Ethiopia has now proven to have been lies and deceptions- the reality is that democracy has been diminished. Regardless of the unpopular results of the elections, both the Ethiopian peoples and all the opposition political parties should never feel that they lost. They should be rewarded for doing the best job that they have done – very peaceful election campaigns were conducted by the opposition parties and, in response, similar rallies and supports were shown by the general public. Both the Ethiopian peoples and the opposition parties have demonstrated and exercised genuine democracy in an oppressive political environment where democracy did not exist. Above all, the reaction of the population during the campaigns clearly demonstrated to the world that fundamental changes are needed in that country. While the local observers were silenced by various types of harassment and intimidation, foreign and international independent observers such as the European Union and various human rights agencies chose to stay away knowing that, based on experiences from the past elections, their presence would make no difference except giving legitimacy to such a fake election. The decision taken by international observers not to participate in such a fake election could be described as a step in the right direction, a sign of rejection and refusal which showed that preconditions the government of Ethiopia followed for the
election was wrong. However, a lot more needs to be done to bring about positive political changes in Ethiopia. The Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa is deeply concerned about the human rights situation in Ethiopia which keeps deteriorating over time. Ethiopia is a party to numerous instruments of international and regional human rights, humanitarian and other laws 1 . The Ethiopian government has accepted, signed and ratified most of the international human rights standards. It has an obligation to adhere to those agreements and their implementations. However, the government of Ethiopia has repeatedly failed to implement those standards, including the Ethiopian constitution of 1995. On the contrary, the government adopted anti- terrorism legislation and NGO law which it has used to criminalize the democratic rights of the people. The Ethiopian government has been given a number of recommendations from UN Human Rights Council sessions to adhere to the international instruments it has signed and ratified, including at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) assessment outcome of 2014, where the country was given 252 recommendations to improve its human rights infringements it has committed against its people. The Ethiopian government also was advised to implement in full its constitutional protection for freedom of expression, assembly and association, and to encourage political tolerance The parliamentary election of May 2015 in Ethiopia confirms that the country is heading towards a monopolitical system of government. To change this, the Ethiopian government needs to:  Adhere to International, Regional and Domestic human rights and their implementation, humanitarian rights and its own constitution  Abolish the Anti-terrorism Proclamation of 2009  Remove NGO law 2009  Reforming the Freedom of the Mass Media and Access to Information Proclamation of 2009  Repealing the provisions shielding public officials from criticism Therefore, the Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) calls upon the international diplomatic and human rights agencies to join hands with the democratic-thirsty Ethiopian peoples and opposition political parties in their efforts to put pressure on the ruling TPLF/EPRDF party so that it abides by democratic principles as well as international laws and respects fundamental human rights so that genuine democracy can flourish.

Amnesty International Asks Ethiopia to Investigate Suspicious Murders and Human Rights Violations

amnesty(Amnesty International) — The suspicious murder of opposition leaders and wide-spread human rights violations against opposition party members over the past few weeks raises questions about Ethiopia’s elections, said Amnesty International as the parliamentary poll results were announced yesterday.
The organization has also expressed concerns about the failure of the Africa Union Elections Observer Mission (AUEOM) and the National Elections Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) to properly monitor and report on allegations of widespread abuses before, during and after the election.
“Amnesty International has received a number of reports concerning the deaths of political opposition figures in suspicious circumstances, as well as of a pattern of human rights violations against political opposition parties throughout the election period. These reports must be investigated and perpetrators brought to justice,” said Michelle Kagari, Amnesty International’s deputy regional director for Eastern, Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes.
“It is unacceptable that these violations barely warranted a mention in reports released by official observers, including the Africa Union Elections Observer Mission and the National Elections Board of Ethiopia.”
In the run-up to the elections, more than 500 members of the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum (EFDUF)/ Medrek – a coalition of opposition parties, including the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) were arrested at polling stations in Oromia region. Forty-six people were beaten and injured by security officers while six people sustained gunshot injuries and two were shot and killed. Gidila Chemeda of the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC/Medrek) was shot and killed by police in Western Shewa zone, Dima Kege Woreda, Gelam Gunge Kebele of the Oromia region.

On June 15, 2015, the body of 27-year-old Samuel Aweke, a candidate with the Samayawi (Blue) party was found in one of the main streets of Dembre-Markos at around 7 p.m. Blue party officials believe his murder was politically motivated. A few days before his murder, Aweke published an article in his political party’s newspaper Negere Ethiopia criticizing the behavior of local authorities, the police and other security officials. His political party claims he received threats from security officers after the article was published. Witnesses at the scene where his body was found said his body had visible stab wounds and appeared to have been beaten with a blunt object.
A member of the Arena/Medrek political opposition party reported that its leader for Western Tigrai zone, Tadesse Abraha, 48, was accosted while on his way home on June 16, 2015 by three unknown people who attempted to strangle him. Abraha managed to escape, but collapsed and died shortly after reaching his home. According to his political party, Abraha had reported being threatened by local security officials shortly before his death.
On June 19, 2015, another member of Medrek was found dead 24 hours after he was arrested at his home by two police officers. Berhanu Erabu’s battered body was found near a river in Hadiya Zone, Soro Woreda (district) of Southern Ethiopia.
Amnesty International has documented these killings and is now calling on the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice, Federal Police Commission and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission to investigate these apparent targeted killings of opposition political party leaders and ensure those responsible are brought to justice
Background:
Amnesty International sent a letter with preliminary recommendations to the AUEOM on May 21, 2015.
Amnesty International expressed its concerns about the state of human rights in Ethiopia and the impact the human rights context was having on the ability of Ethiopians to participate in the electoral process. The organization urged the AUEOM to monitor and report on human rights violations throughout the election period in its assessment of the conduct of the elections.
The ruling political party, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has been declared the winner of the elections.

The Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), led by the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), has stolen democracy, money, votes and liberty from the Oromo people as they had done many times in the previous elections and they have done in the 2015 General Elections. As the Chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), Dr. Merera Gudina said, this “is not an election; it is an organized armed robbery.”
I also asked myself many times: why TPLF leaders, while they know 100% that there is no free and fair election, spend a huge sum of taxpayers’ money to hold fake and sham elections? Why not they give that taxpayers’ money back to the people who look for food at garbage dumps for daily subsistence? Or does their evil behavior not even allow this?!

The Oromo people have been the most affected people by TPLF election results because they refuse to accept the fake results, and Oromo mothers have lost many brave and strong children. The Oromo youth refuses to accept the election results, not without reasons, because everything in connection with the electoral process – before, during and after the voting day – has been accompanied by fraud and violence. The Oromo people are thoroughly tired of getting their democracy, their money, their natural resources, their choices and their liberty stolen by a tyrannical government like EPRDF and its satellite party, OPDO.
The dictatorial regime of EPRDF has clearly and openly lied again for the fifth time as if they had carried out a free and fair election in Ethiopia on the 24th of May 2015, but everything that has happened in relation to the 2015 election is opposite to what EPRDF is claiming. This is not something new; it has been carried out many times before in order to use it as a means to beg money from Western countries – the money, which they usually use to crack down on the opposition’s members and supporters as well as to suppress other citizens. The ruling party lies again as if it has won the election in a democratic process while the fact is that it has snatched people’s votes by bullets. Harassment of the opposition’s observers, members and supporters before, during and after the election is evidence that the election has been accompanied by violence. Before, during and after the election, human rights activists, journalists, and the opposition’s members and supporters have been persecuted. They have been subjected to raids, and they have been deprived of their properties, and eventually, arrested and imprisoned – and even some of them had been killed based on false accusations. They have been harassed, intimidated, imprisoned and killed for legally exercising their freedom of speech, and demanding for a free and fair election. The anti-terrorism law makes this easy. The authorities have used a variety of methods to intimidate activists and silence critics – from using fictional criminal charges to implementing repressive laws and bureaucratic rules in order to suppress the opposition’s members and supporters. Persecuting the opposition’s election observers, members and activists reinforces the impression that the government is prepared to ignore human rights and the opposition’s demand for a free and fair election to achieve its goals. The EPRDF government has severely curtailed Oromo activists’ freedom and freedom of expression, and its harassment and threats directed at civil societies stand as a grotesque contrast with the government’s claims that there is democracy in Ethiopia. TPLF has also continued killing and dismissing Oromo students from universities as a revenge after Oromo students had refused to vote for TPLF’s candidates in the fake and sham election in Ethiopia.
The EPRDF government, led by the minority group called TPLF, has been using coercive means and manipulations of election results to stay in power. Despite the killings of Oromo university students by TPLF security forces and the sufferings of Oromo farmers – who have been evicted from their indigenous land by the EPRDF regime, TPLF says the economy is growing faster than any other country in Africa. If the development that has been claimed by TPLF is sustainable, why is it then BBC’s Lerato Mbel recently reported about the economic status in Ethiopia – putting it in this way on April 16, 2015: “They show an economy growing in near double-digits, but about 40% live below the poverty line.”
In fact, expecting a free and fair election from the TPLF-led government is the same as expecting a hyena to lay an egg. As EU’s Member of Parliament Ana Gomes also concluded about the election in this way: “Ethiopian election cannot be free and fair under current regime,” I would also say that Ethiopia won’t develop and be stable as long as the repressive TPLF regime is in power, and the Western powers continue to support it.
Therefore, the time has come to support the Oromo national movement morally, financially and diplomatically, and to put a concerted and united front with all oppressed peoples to send back this evil group of TPLF to where it has come from before it is too late as TPLF and its partners have not stopped their intimidation, arrests and killings of unarmed Oromo people who have refused to elect them.

Why Ethiopian migrants brave illegal crossings again – and again


Ethiopia is one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, but that hasn’t stopped the outflow of migrants, underscoring the challenges countries face in trying to stem what were record levels of migration globally in 2014.

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA (The Christian Science Monitor) — Among the young Ethiopian entrepreneurs idly sipping coffee near their shops in Addis Ababa, Tariku Temesgen stands out as the joker.
Wearing scarlet dungarees and aviator shades, he draws laughter by describing his routine as a ​merchant ​who has nothing to sell. “I just stand here all day staring at my empty shop,” he says, leaning against the wall of his would-be electronics repair ​store.
Like many of the shopkeepers in this complex​, Mr. Tariku doesn’t pay rent, courtesy of a government program to create jobs for returning migrants. But the nearby construction of a $475 million railway has killed traffic, ​leaving rows of merchandise ​in shops waiting for customers ​who do not come. ​ So even though Tariku has attempted unsuccessfully to migrate through Sudan five times over the past six years, he is thinking – yet again – about heading abroad to look for work.​
The horrors that many migrants confront on their illegal journeys abroad – from sexual assault​ and other abuse to drowning ​or execution ​by militants – ​are well publicized. But Tariku’s determination to repeat the experience speaks to the economic forces that have helped drive an increasing number of Ethiopian migrants abroad, despite a booming economy that has grown nearly 9 percent annually over the past four years, according to the IMF.
While the growth is dramatic, many say it has largely benefited the business class, says Michael Woldemariam, a political scientist at Boston University in Massachusetts. The “losers” include a mass of jobless graduates and poor city dwellers that struggle beneath skyrocketing living costs.
With these prospects, many young Ethiopians are willing to take their chances rather than settle for an average monthly pay of $60, intensifying pressure on the government to try to increase opportunities more broadly among the population.
“As long as you are human you always want to improve your life,” Tariku says. “If things don’t start improving here, then I might try again.” ​
Accessing money
His will to leave persists despite the fact that over the past few months, sickening news of migrants’ journeys has been arriving from all directions.
Some who went north through Sudan, the same route Tariku took, drowned in the Mediterranean or were executed in April by an Islamic State offshoot in Libya. In the east, thousands have been caught in Yemen’s civil war as they try to reach the wealthy Gulf nations. Ethiopians were also targets of xenophobic attacks in South Africa two months ago.
Still, it is estimated that around 75,000 Ethiopians tried to reach the Gulf in 2014, with tens of thousands more making equally treacherous trips to try and reach Europe and South Africa.
They are fleeing rock-bottom wages and inflation that has averaged 17 percent a year over the past decade. While the economic growth has helped bring 2.5 million people out of poverty since 2005, the number still living under a poverty line of 60 cents (US) a day has remained constant at around 25 million, due to a rapidly increasing population.
Better wages in Sudan
When he lived in Khartoum, the capital of the economically struggling Sudan, Tariku earned $22 a day from welding and washing dishes at a pizza restaurant. In comparison, his welding skills only earn him $7 a day in Addis Ababa, although sometimes he doesn’t get paid for work, he claims. With house rent of $54 a month and a basic meal costing $1.25, he is barely surviving.
His store, though free, cost him around $430 to partition, despite doing all the work himself. Now he has no cash left to stock it, and officials threaten to evict him and hand his space to someone else in their enterprise program. While there are loan facilities for the micro-entrepreneurs, Tariku can’t find a guarantor and doesn’t possess assets for collateral.
Alem Berhane, another shopkeeper in the enterprise ​plan, is also struggling. She was among 168,000 Ethiopian workers deported from Saudi Arabia in late 2013. Now she is under-employed, selling coffee to a handful of construction workers to make around $1 a day.
According to Mr. Woldemariam, “the out-migration will continue” unless the government can “more concretely addresses the structural problems.”
Government efforts
Half of those who were deported from Saudi Arabia tried to migrate again, the Ethiopian government says. Such choices are partly due to misconceptions that is easier earning a living abroad, says Solomon Tesfaye of the prime minister’s office, who heads a task force to combat human trafficking. Donor-supported “community conversations” where people discuss the harsh realities of illegal travel, are effective at putting off potential migrants, he adds.
Stiffer sentences for human trafficking are on the way, as is legislation to better regulate employment agencies and improve pre-departure training for workers. Legal routes may re-open once the new legislation is combined with labor agreements with Gulf countries.
Alem praises the government for trying to improve Ethiopians’ lives by doing everything from teaching people about the hazards of illegal migration to creating jobs opportunities. She had flown to Saudi Arabia in 2011 legally to work as a housemaid in Jeddah, where she earned a tax-free salary of around $187 a month. The job went well until her employer wanted her for his “second wife.” She declined and wasn’t paid for three months before leaving to work other jobs illegally. Overall, she described her two-year experience as “not bad,” mostly because she wasn’t sexually assaulted like other Ethiopian maids, and her savings allowed her to provide for her relatives.
By opening a bar in the capital and building an extension to her parents’ home in the Tigray region, Alem says the money she earned in Saudi Arabia changed her family’s life.
Unfortunately, a church opened above the bar and her regulars drifted elsewhere. Now she’s not sure what to do, partly hoping the coffee brewing business improves, partly waiting for legal channels to re-open. “There is opportunity for me to improve my life there, much more than here,” she says.

The passing of our hero’s, an icon of the struggle against the colonization of our country Oromia, creates a great hope to fill. Their death also reminds us of their life. A life unparalleled for their bravery, conviction, and devotion to a just cause, and to the liberation of their fellow men and women in Oromia and particularly their own people Oromo those who mostly affected. A life in which they struggled against the might of the Ethiopian empire and sacrificed their own liberty so that all Oromo’s and other nationalities in Oromia could enjoy dignity, prosperity, and freedom. This paper discusses the complexity of our struggle, Oromumma factor and way out. Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. All human being are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, equality and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these Rights, governments are instituted, whenever any Form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government in order to keep in place a concrete foundation for democratic governance and rule of law. For many countries, the presence of malicious leaders forms a notable impediment to the development of their economy as well as their living conditions. This makes one wonder how these leaders can be removed, and how their rise to power can be prevented. When it comes to the question of how to punish malevolent rulers, the international community has increased its commitment to prosecute malevolent dictators by establishing the International Criminal Court. This deters dictators from committing atrocities. For example on May 30 2012, the Special Court for Sierra Leone sentenced Charles Taylor, former president of Liberia, to 50 years imprisonment for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Successive Ethiopian regimes have never displayed humanity or respect for Oromo’s and denied opportunities to build their social, economic, political, cultural and organizational infrastructures. In all spheres of life, discrimination, subjugation, repression and exploitation of all forms were applied. Everything possible was done to destroy Oromo identity – culture, language, custom, tradition, name and origin. In short the leaders of Ethiopian regimes maintained the general policy of genocide against the Oromo people. But there is no former or current leader of Ethiopian government has been imprisoned or charged for the war crimes and crimes against Oromo’s. Is it factor of our weakness? Is it failure of the international community?. In my opinion we as an Oromo we have a lot to do in order to liberate our country Oromia and bring those criminals to justice or bring justice to them. Typically the colonizers exploit the land, the raw materials, the labor, and other resources of the colonized nation in order to enrich the mother country (republic of Tigray); in addition a formal recognition is given to the difference in power, autonomy, and political status, and various agencies are set up to maintain this subordination. There are many Oromo’s sided with this criminal and barbaric colonial state instead of fighting in order to eliminate them. There is no simple, single explanation for the passivity of the Oromo’s sided with colonial state, killers of their nations and destroyer of their identity. Their motives are complex and changing and it is best to examine them in some detail. One explanation for passivity is that precisely the power and pervasiveness of the colonial state has created deep fear, especially among people with family obligations, vulnerable employment and with moderate commitments to democratic freedoms. This group of citizens is aware of cases where colonial powers (TPLF) have affected other citizens who were involved in critical activities, causing job loss and broad suffering and are not willing to sacrifice their security and the welfare of their families.
 The second possible motive for accepting of the colonial state is ignorance: those peoples or groups who are not aware of the size, scope and activities of the colonial state. Their practical behavior speaks to the notion that ‘since I am not directly affected it must not exist’. Embedded in everyday life, making a living, enjoying leisure time, entertainment, sports, family and concerned only about household budgets. This mass is so embedded in their personal ‘micro-world’ that it considers the macro-economic and political issues raised by the colonial state as ‘distant’, outside of their experience or interest: ‘I don’t have time’, ‘I don’t know enough’, ‘It’s all ‘politics’. The widespread apoliticism of the public plays into its ignoring the monster that has grown in its midst. Ethiopian peasants, regardless of their ethnicity, do not have a clue about what we are talking about. They would die happy if only they got enough “bidena on their gabattee” (in Afaan Oromo) every evening and see their children well fed before they went to bed. Complexity of our struggle: Our colonizers (previous one→elite Amhara’s ruling class, current one→eliteTigre ruling class, future one→mixture Ama-Tigo) and Oromumma factor →sided with enemy. All those groups have their own history to tell us under their camouflage in order to confuse us: 1- Elite Amhara’s under camouflage of unity: we are one people, one country and on culture. So it is time to think beyond our ethnicity. While the Oromo people cause is to rebuild the Democratic republic of Oromia, they minimize our cause to the level of ethnicity and try to confuse our people. 2- Elite Tigre under camouflage of emerging democracy combined with politics of economy: So, Now we will give you regional names and administration posts but way of life, rules of administration and resources control is under Tigrean. They humiliate 45 millions of Oromo people in-front of international community and minimize our cause till remote control case. 3- Mixture ones Elite “Ama-Tigo” under camouflage of investment and economical power: Those groups are sworn enemies to each other but on destruction of Oromo people they are brothers and sister. Their propaganda as follows: The civilization of the world is depend on economical power, so instead of fighting each other on land issues we have to think in modern ways. In this way they try to confuse our people to eliminate the identity question and minimize our cause to money and luxury level. 4- Oromumma factor under camouflage of hope, getting better: Their Propaganda is: there are many sky reach building in finfinne, I have villa house in Bole, there are many prisons in Oromia, there are many secret police from Tigray…… These groups are minimizing our collectivity cause ‘Great Oromia’ to individual level and heroes of the nation those languishing in prison camps are demonize to the level of criminals (Example Abadulla-OPDO words). Our answer to all those destructive forces are one and concrete. We Oromo’s have to be the master of our destination and boss of our resources. After that we can talk about unity, about emerging democracy, about economical power and hope. Until that destination the only solution is Fight! Fight! Fight! To eradicate you, the master of disaster. Master of disasters in detail: The elite Amhara’s, still don’ t want to understand the feeling and the pain of the Oromo people. CUD Coalition for Unity and Democracy? Intentionally I would have preferred to name it CDU Coalition for Democracy and Unity. It is not semantics but this name itself reflects the true nature of the Abyssinian elites where Unity at all cost is the driving force behind their movement instead of Democracy at all cost . For me, unless a society is democratic, there is no way you can achieve unity. But if they don’t understand the problem, how do they expect
the problem to be solved? I am sure they have heard a million times that identification of a problem is already 50% of the solution. Millions of Oromo’s under Tigrean People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) rule face imprisonment, humiliation, torture and death if they complain about the injustices on the daily bases and atrocities by government security forces. While Ethiopia’s commitment to economic development is laudable, communities affected by certain programs such as the villagization and industrialization program in Gambella, Oromia and the development of irrigated sugar plantations in the lower Omo Valley have experienced serious abuses such as forced relocations, inadequate consultation and lack of services in resettlement sites. There has been little or no apparent effort to investigate or ensure accountability for these abuses or for past serious crimes by security forces in Oromia, gambella and somali region. TPLF is characterized by three unfulfilled promises and fear (fear of real democracy, absence of free political space and fear of media) Fear of real Democracy: Democratization is not simply a matter of multi-partyism or elections; it also encompasses freedom of expression and association, the rule of law, press freedom, and independent civil society. On all fronts, Ethiopia went backwards and democratization system of TPLF government represent an actual reduction in free political space. Some foreign diplomats and observers assumed that the TPLF would liberalize his policy towards true democratic system. That optimism underestimated several factors influencing the TPLF elite: their ideological commitment to democratic centralism, their fear of majoritarian democracy in a country where Oromo’s constitute an overwhelming majority (45%), and their intolerance of any criticism. So it is naïve to think they would open up progressively step by step. Absence of free political space: The closing off of all political space, the maintenance of a climate of fear, the intimidations and disappearances of potentially critical voices, the banning of the sole opposition party with some possible popular grounding like OLF, the attacks on key civil society organizations and the further muzzling of the press – all point to the undeniable fact that there is no free choice in Ethiopia. Fear of media power: The Ethiopian TPLF Government will continue to restrict press freedom as long as it continues to treat media primarily as a means of mobilization: The media will communicate to the population on four core programmes which feature prominently in Government’s policy – good governance, justice, economy, and social welfare. Ama-Tigo (mixture of future one): Colonization refers to both the formal and informal methods (behaviors, ideologies, institutions, policies, and economies) that maintain the subjugation or exploitation of Indigenous Peoples, lands and resources. So, our colonizers elite Amhara’s and elite Tigre, every day they engage in activities that continue to justify the theft of Oromo lands, the killing and subjugation of Oromo Peoples, and the ruthless exploitation of Oromia resources. From birth, they begin teaching their children myths regarding the righteousness of the existing social order (their superiority). That message is reinforced throughout their lives. It is hard work maintaining such lies, so whenever the colonized threaten to disrupt their myth-making, they are quickly silenced, suppressed, and further subjugated. The actions of the colonialist are predictable and consistent. The eviction of Oromo people from their ancestral land in Finfinne is one example of their coalition against Oromo people. Oromumma factor: Civilians are killed by dictators (TPLF-leaders), ears and hands may be chopped by special forces of TPLF like agazi forces in Ambo, or properties will burned down by the police and military forces
 purely with the aim of forcing Oromo people to scare and dismantle struggle for freedom. True Oromo’s are continue to fight back this criminal government by all means available despite millions of obstacles and deaths. Now days there are Oromo’s who sided with the enemies because of many motives like fear, need of money and afraid of suffering. Those peoples are living in the dark and afraid to see the light (freedom). We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. Those people are telling us many stories about their masters kindness through their organized institution (Oromo diaspora, OPDO members, Ambassadors…). They are telling us: (we are free to govern Oromia region, freedom of expression is improving in Ethiopia, my one room apartment is safe in mekele, innocent Oromo prisoners are criminals……..) Are they crazy? ignorant? Moral less? The development of real freedom always and everywhere means the restriction of the freedom of others to oppress and do wrong. Freedom for the vast majority necessarily means restriction of the freedom of a small minority to exploit the labour of others, monopolise the social means of production and communication. TPLF leaders are officially denies any types of freedom. In Ambo they kill more than hundred innocent people those who demand justice, Abbay Thayye (TPLF-dictator) intimidating 45 million of Oromo people by implementing the eviction of Oromo’s from their ancestral land Finfinne. So what is those surrogates of TPLF are talking about? are they really Oromo’s? It is not what you do for your people, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful and respected human beings. Stop to praise our enemies, feel shame to tell us wrong stories, dare to speak against TPLF atrocities on Oromo people's, support Oromo movement for freedom and democracy and use your mind for principal and moral responsibility. What is to be done? Historical experience teaches us that a successful struggle against a colonial state depends on the linking of the socio-economic struggles that engage the attention of the masses with the pro-democracy, freedom fighters, intellectuals with diverse professionalism. The deepening of economic crisis of our people, the big differences of living standards and working conditions and the fight to survive in order to fulfill basic necessities is the basis of power for revolution. Freedom is essential to the struggle for social justice and the mass struggle for social justice will fight back colonial state. The mass economic pain will ignite mass activity, which, in turn, will make people aware of the dangerous growth of the colonial state. A mass understanding of this link will be essential to any advance in the movement for democracy, freedom and people’s welfare. TPLF members are the owners of the huge corporations that dominate the economy, and their servants among governments and institutions who maintain the political and economic system in their interests. These are the same people who continue harass the Oromo people on the daily basis in one hand and in another hand export the false propaganda of emerging democracy with well-financed manner. So as long as the political and economic system of TPLF dominated government in place no matter how many Oromo elected officials, or even an Oromo prime minster, can bring about the liberation of Oromia and Oromo people. The oppression of the Oromo people continue. So we say that we Oromo’s are not only fight for our freedom, but we need to end all types of oppression against other nationalities like (Ogden, sidama’s, Benishangul….). To win this struggle for freedom we have to fight and simultaneously organized with responsibility. Organized with responsibility means “struggle to bring impact in order to faster our goal but not income to enrich individuals”. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away (So, death for freedom is grateful than TPLF control breath).

From birth, they begin teaching their children myths regarding the righteousness of the existing social order (their superiority). That message is reinforced throughout their lives. It is hard work maintaining such lies, so whenever the colonized threaten to disrupt their myth-making, they are quickly silenced, suppressed, and further subjugated. The actions of the colonialist are predictable and consistent. The eviction of Oromo people from their ancestral land in Finfinne is one example of their coalition against Oromo people.
Oromumma factor: Civilians are killed by dictators (TPLF-leaders), ears and hands may be chopped by special forces of TPLF like agazi forces in Ambo, or properties will burned down by the police and military forces purely with the aim of forcing Oromo people to scare and dismantle struggle for freedom.  True Oromo’s are continue to fight back this criminal government by all means available despite millions of obstacles and deaths.
Now days there are Oromo’s who sided with the enemies because of many motives like fear, need of money and afraid of suffering. Those peoples are living in the dark and afraid to see the light (freedom). We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. Those people are telling us many stories about their masters kindness through their organized institution (Oromo diaspora, OPDO members, Ambassadors…). They are telling us: (we are free to govern Oromia region, freedom of expression is improving in Ethiopia, my one room apartment is safe in mekele, innocent Oromo prisoners are criminals……..) Are they crazy? ignorant? Moral less?
The development of real freedom always and everywhere means the restriction of the freedom of others to oppress and do wrong. Freedom for the vast majority necessarily means restriction of the freedom of a small minority to exploit the labour of others, monopolise the social means of production and communication. TPLF leaders are officially denies any types of freedom. In Ambo they kill more than hundred innocent people those who demand justice, Abbay Thayye (TPLF-dictator) intimidating 45 million of Oromo people by implementing the eviction of Oromo’s from their ancestral land Finfinne. So what is those surrogates of TPLF are talking about? are they really Oromo’s?  It is not what you do for your people, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful and respected human beings. Stop to praise our enemies, feel shame to tell us wrong stories, dare to speak against TPLF atrocities on Oromo people’s, support Oromo movement for freedom and democracy and use your mind for principal and moral responsibility.
What is to be done?
Historical experience teaches us that a successful struggle against a colonial state depends on thelinking of the socio-economic struggles that engage the attention of the masses with the pro-democracy, freedom fighters, intellectuals with diverse professionalism. The deepening of economic crisis of our people, the big differences of living standards and working conditions and the fight to survive in order to fulfill basic necessities is the basis of power for revolution. Freedom is essential to the struggle for social justice and the mass struggle for social justice will fight back colonial state. The mass economic pain will ignite mass activity, which, in turn, will make people aware of the dangerous growth of the colonial state. A mass understanding of this link will be essential to any advance in the movement for democracy, freedom and people’s welfare.
TPLF members are the owners of the huge corporations that dominate the economy, and their servants among governments and institutions who maintain the political and economic system in their interests. These are the same people who continue harass the Oromo people on the daily basis in one hand and in another hand export  the false propaganda of emerging democracy with well-financed manner. So as long as the political and economic system of TPLF dominated government in place no matter how many Oromo elected officials, or even an Oromo prime minster, can bring about the liberation of Oromia and Oromo people. The oppression of the Oromo people continue.
So we say that we Oromo’s are not only fight for our freedom, but we need to end all types of oppression against other nationalities like (Ogden, sidama’s, Benishangul….). To win this struggle for freedom we have to fight and simultaneously organized with responsibility.  Organized with responsibility means “struggle to bring impact in order to faster our goal but not income to enrich individuals”.
